It’s been a long time since I’ve posted something on this blog. I’ve been a bit busy with work, and I’ve forgotten to save a small amount of time and attention to my drawing. Along with that, I have committed on doing a 5-page Hellboy story by the end of October, seeing that it’s already 3 days into November, and I’ve only finished 2 panels, I’m kind of dissapointed at myself and at the same time felt that I let my friends down (that’s you John).
I’ve been saying this a lot, that I will set a specific time of my day for drawing, either a sketch or something or anything, as long as it involves drawing. I mean, how can I achieve my “dreams” if I don’t do anything? This time, I’ll be a bit more serious about it. Less talking, more working. I noticed that if I talk about doing something, and actually tell my friends that “hey, here’s what I’m going to do..” I actually end up doing nothing. I guess it’s what you call “a sense of accomplishment by imagination”. Yeah I just made that up.
What actually gave me a wake-up call was an episode of Oprah. You can laugh about it, but that night, I was playing with my DS and then while my mom was watching Oprah, a preview of the next segment came up. It piqued my interest, I laid down my DS and watched it.
It was about Dr. Randy Pausch, an American professor in Computer Science at Carnegie Melon University, who upon learning that he only has months to live, gave his “Last Lecture”, which is basically how to achieve your childhood dreams. (for more info about Randy Pausch, go use Google).
That hit me like nothing hit me before. I mean, my childhood dreams are either to become an astronaut, or do comics work. The first one seems impossible, but the second one is a possible reality. So basically, he made me realize that I should get off my ass, and nobody can achieve any of their dreams if they just keep on sitting and dreaming. It requires hard work, dedication, discpline, time, patience, and the works. It’s not an easy thing to do, but I have to do it if I want to go somewhere. I just need to keep reminding myself that.
You get the point. I need to make it work this time around.
Wish me luck.

Good luck, man. We know you love the comic art-form, dude. Just remember this one important thing: Art gives back what you give to it. Keep that in mind and act on it, and you’ll do great.

hey! well, i dont have any right to tell you what you can do, because i also have nothing. not like john here, giro! to be honest, you have what it takes, your art is amazing and you have a very cool style, but what amazes me the most is that you dont seem to know what you have! so go at it man! but that is actually not the reason why im leaving a comment, the real reason is YOU WATCH OPRAH AND YOU HIDE BEHIND YOUR MOM CLAIMING THAT SHE WAS THE ONE WATHCING!?! cmon ‘lex, be a man!

Wow an actual BLOG entry. Well, Alex, I think you definitely have the skill to make it in the comic world. I think your style is pretty sweet, even if Superman looks like Frank Castle. I mean really, they aren’t THAT different anyway… right!?
Seriously though. Get to drawing, I’ll get to writing. When we’re famous, we team up and make an awesome comic.

Yeah Jessy, I do hope that someday we can get together and make a story. We both know we’re meant for each other. And you know I’m gay for you. Thanks for the support though.
