I haven’t drawn anything for a few weeks now. I was busy with work, and February is the busiest day of the year. So while we were drinking last Sunday, I did some doodles for fun and a bit of loosening up practice.

Lantern Jordan
Yesterday, I went to a local bookstore and bought the Batman: Private Casefiles trade, and while I was there surrounded by comic books, I felt this energy and enthusiasm to draw again. I guess seeing all that art made me want to make art, and I think that really helped boosting my motivation in drawing again. Today, after sleeping, I woke up feeling good and I just wanted to draw. I mean, just do it and draw. So I made Green Lantern.
Some things I learned today:
- Don’t be too lazy to switch pens.
- It’s not bad to reference a pose, reference is good. Any reference.
- Don’t rush things.
As usual, I welcome your criticism with open arms.

Ultimate Hulk
Hm, it’s been quite some time since the last time I did something. I actually had a rough time starting up and warming up to drawing again. But once you get the hang of it, you won’t stop. It’s like Pringles. Also, this one here’s Ultimate Hulk, and I apologize for the lack of a dynamic pose. I think the only difference between the 616 and Ultimate versions of Hulk is the hair style, but sometimes they can be rendered almost in the same way. I don’t see the big deal. I was looking at Leinil Yu’s art while I was doing this one. I think I’m a sponge.

Penance
So John asked me to draw/compose something like a cover of some sorts. He suggested to draw Penance aka Speedball aka Robbie Baldwin aka School Bomber. So the original concept should be that he’s standing infront of his costume (which will be the background). This was my initial sketch which I just inked because I want to try something out when inking it.
What I don’t like about this is fucked up face, which I worsened by adding a lot of unnecessary lines and shadow. While working on this one, I realized a few things:
- I’m weak on portraying human faces, especially when expressing emotion
- It’s hard to “create” contoured lines using markers, or that I don’t know how to do it.
- Rushing things will fuck things up. (Note to self: REMEMBER THIS!)
- Do not let an empty area screw with your head. It’s empty for a reason.
Also, I have a sore throat for 2 days now.

Compulstory Christmas Post
So I hope you guys had a nice Christmas? Yeah? I had a pretty nice one. Started with a drinking session with co-workers after shift (4am), then went home for a little rest. After than we had lunch with the whole family, that includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Then went to drinking again after lunch, which then lasted until night. Me and my brother then watched “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” and “Global Metal”. I then felt shitty, probably because of the whole day “event” and having almost no rest at all. Although I got pretty cool loots, 3 books; 50 Great Short Stories (a collection), Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, and Stephen King’s “Cell”, and I also got a 500 peso gift card (which I gave to mom).
Oh, and I’m semi sick after Christmas Day.
Happy Holidays to all! Enjoy the double holiday pay if you’re working!
I’ll see if I can draw something later today, or tomorrow.

Female Soldier #1
Good morning/warm up/practice drawing of a female soldier. I kinda added the SHIELD logo for kicks.
Also, episode 14 of Tres Komikeros, our little comics review podcast, is up. Check it out here! We talk about Batman RIP & Secret Invasion’s conclusion, and review a local comic book called “Trese”.

Ghost Ridah
My warm up sketch before I started my page tonight while doing a journal meme with John. I got the idea from my buddy Rey’s art blog.

Poses
I’ve been trying to practice doing poses in the past few days. Although I didn’t have a lot of time doing them, I try at least to do rough sketches of poses I find interesting while reading comics. I noticed that most of the poses I do are either frontal, and the arms are all spread out, they’re too “static” and flat. I really admire artists who can draw flexible characters, and those that even if the character is just standing, you can see that the pose is very natural. Right now, what I’m doing is whenever I see a pose that I like I sort of copy it and learn how the artist was able to structure that pose and stuff like that. I guess it’s not swiping if you do it for educational purposes. I’m also thinking of picking up sports magazines tomorrow, maybe that’ll also help me understand the body in motion. Oh yeah, I’m also reading Journey to the Centre of the Earth, I know it’s a bit old and late but it’s good fun especially for hyperborean journey research.
That reminds me, I should get some good stock paper tomorrow too. Man, I need more gold coins.
